Roof Leak Repair

Roof Leak Repair By San Diego’s Roofing Specialists

It doesn’t rain much in San Diego, so homeowners often don’t realize they have a leaking roof. That’s why when it does rain, our phone rings off the hook with calls for roof leak repair! The good news is that a leaky roof doesn’t always mean that your entire roof needs to be replaced. Leaks are often caused by small problems that are easy to fix, like loose flashings or vents, debris, or missing shingles. In these cases, you’ll just need to fix your roof leak.

Putting Off Repairs Can Cost You

You can save a lot of money over the life of your home by keeping your roof properly maintained. Be sure to fix any leaks as soon as you notice them. Even a small leak can cause a lot of damage over time. Wet spots on your roof can cause wood rot and mold. When these problems are left to spread, it can lead to a much more expensive roof leak repair. Instead of a small repair, you might have to pay to replace sheathing, framing, and underlayment. You may even have to invest in a new roof.  It can also lead to ceiling, drywall, and insulation damage. Rather than putting off a simple repair, your best bet is to call and get the leak fixed as soon as you see the signs.

To prevent further damage from occurring to your home, we offer emergency tarping if weather conditions make it so that we can’t get started on your roof right away.

How Do I Know If My Roof Is Leaking?

With many roof leaks, you will see a wet spot on the ceiling or even high in the wall itself. It is easy to spot on drywall because it leaves a stain. However, it is harder to see on a home with lath and stucco walls, which can hold and hide water five times longer than drywall. Most new homes in the San Diego area have drywall, but some older homes are made with the lath and stucco ceilings and walls.

Once you spot a leak, how do you know if you need a roof leak repair or if it is the plumbing? To tell the difference, you can look for the following clues:

  • Water that comes from a roof leak is usually dirty, whereas a plumbing leak most often has clean water.
  • If the leak shows up during or soon after a rainstorm, it is probably the roof.
  • If you spot any wetness or insulation damage in the attic, it is probably the roof. Plumbing pipes usually don’t run through the attic.
  • If the leak is a steady drop, it is probably a from a plumbing pipe.

How Do I Find Out Where My Roof Is Leaking?

It can be tricky to find where your roof leaked. It is not uncommon for the actual leak to be feet away from where the drywall stains are. Luckily, our roofers have years of experience inspecting roofs. Before any roof leak repair, they will carefully inspect your home and roof. They will check things like vents, chimneys, flashing, roof valleys, windows, and siding. After the inspection, we will provide you with a detailed, free estimate that outlines the work that needs to be done to fix your roof leak.
